Swine Face, the book cover: a pale pig mask resting on a wooden chair in a sunlit cottage kitchen

"If you're going to eat like a pig, you can look like one."

Part One · The pig mask

The book

Samuel is ten when his father teaches him to hold a square without strangling it. A shelf for his chest of drawers, a shed lit by a lamp on a bent metal stalk, a friend coming over on Sunday.

Then, over a spilled plate of gravy, a pink face with pointed ears comes out of the old green cupboard in the shed, and a household lesson in how a father makes a boy remember.

Told in plain, careful prose, Swine Face follows Samuel out of the family house, through a rented room of his own, and back again, to the workshop, the things worth keeping, and the things a person chooses to remember.

About the author

Ole Gabrielsen

Ole Gabrielsen writes quiet fiction about families, work done with the hands, and the small objects that hold a memory. He loves mythic structure, the Hero's Journey above all, and has studied storytelling and mythic structure for over two decades. Swine Face is his novel, shared here in full for readers to download.

"Don't strangle the thing. Just hold it."
